Brief

Beyond School Trust appointed Form to transform the second floor of Walderslade Girls School into a dedicated Sixth Form centre, replacing outdated classrooms with a cohesive suite of modern learning and social spaces. The redesign introduced a Common Room, Study Room, ICT Room, Games Room and office, creating a more mature environment aligned with post-16 education.

The refurbishment delivered a contemporary aesthetic while enhancing functionality, supported by new lighting, data and power installations alongside a full FF&E package. Careful planning ensured the works were completed safely within a live school setting, minimising disruption to staff and students.

The product delivered to the school was truly outstanding. The quality of the workmanship was of a high specification and aligned perfectly with the original design.

Gary Bennett, Trust Facilities Manager Beyond School Trust

How we did it

The project began with a full strip-out of the second floor classrooms, including the safe removal of asbestos by licensed specialists. The space was then reconfigured to create dedicated Sixth Form facilities, with a new structural opening enhancing flow and connectivity across the floor.

A new suspended ceiling allowed for the seamless integration of electrical and data services, supported by a complete LED lighting upgrade and enhanced power provision. Durable flooring solutions were installed throughout, combining heavy-duty vinyl in high-traffic areas with vinyl and carpet finishes tailored to individual rooms.

Form delivered a comprehensive FF&E and bespoke joinery package, incorporating fitted units, ICT benching, study desks, storage and soft seating to maximise functionality and complement the contemporary design. Final finishes included full redecoration, upgraded glazing manifestations and stair details, resulting in a high-quality environment designed to support modern learning.

Health and Safety

Operating within a live school environment demanded a carefully controlled approach. Segregated work areas, managed access routes and comprehensive protection measures ensured the safety of staff, pupils and visitors throughout. Close coordination with the school allowed daily activities to continue uninterrupted, while a clean, compliant site supported efficient delivery. This disciplined approach enabled the refurbishment to be completed safely and to a consistently high standard.
